You know, I asked the question on day one, Why are we going to Iraq to fight the terrorists from Afganistan. The answer I recieved from most was more confusion than an answer then comes the Weapons of Mass Destruction excuse. I only had two words to say to that excuse, (Google Earth) if the average person can zoom in on their own back yard then what technology does our military have?? uhhh duh

There is no need to abolish the Electoral College to achieve a national popular vote for President.

The National Popular Vote bill would guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states (and DC). The has 366 legislative sponsors in 47 states and has been supported by 391 additional legislators in recorded votes. It has been signed into law in Maryland. Since its introduction in February 2006, the bill has passed by 11 legislative houses.

The bill would take effect only when enacted, in identical form, by states possessing a majority of the electoral votes—that is, enough electoral votes to elect a President (270 of 538). When the bill is enacted in a group of states possessing 270 or more electoral votes, all of the electoral votes from those states would be awarded, as a bloc, to the presidential candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states (and DC).

“Head Idiot” incorrectly states “Maryland has a law ORDERING the state’s electors to vote for the winner of the nationwide popular vote. … But … state laws directing electors how to vote are unconstitutional.” The National Popular Vote bill (enacted in Maryland) does not achieve its objectives by ORDERING anyone to vote in a particular way. It uses the same approach that is currently used in Maryland (and virtually every other state), namely it elects party activists who are already committed to the winning presidential candidate to cast the electoral votes in favor of that candidate. Under the National Popular Vote bill, Maryland’s electors would be those committed to the candidate who receives the most votes in all 50 states (and DC). If the Republican presidential candidates get the most votes in all 50 states, Maryland’s presidential electors (and those of the other states passing identical laws) would be Republican. If the Democrat wins the national popular vote, Maryland’s electors would be Democratic. No one is ORDERED to do anything except to vote for the presidential candidate to whom they are already committed.
